PETALING JAYA: A man was robbed by three foreigners after being duped into changing US dollars back to Malaysian ringgit on Saturday (Aug 24).
Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Noor Azmi Yusoff (pic), in a statement issued Sunday (Aug 25), said the victim had been offered an exchange rate of US$1 to RM6.
“He met with a female suspect, who offered to take him to her office to complete the transaction.
“As they approached Taman Ampang Jaya, the suspect stopped her car and three men approached the vehicle. One opened the door and grabbed the victim’s bag.
“The victim was also pushed and punched by the suspects before he managed to escape,” he said.
ACP Noor Azmi said that the victim had around US$101,500 (RM425,386)
in the bag, as well as other important documents.
The three suspects, believed to be of African nationality, and the woman are currently being sought after by the authorities.
“The suspects were found to have left the car that was used to transport the victim and fled in another car.
“The first car was found to be a cloned car while their get-away vehicle had a fake number plate,” he said, adding that investigations are ongoing.
