BREAKING: Man taken out of Heritage Bank in handcuffs – WIFR

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – More than 7 hours after a hostage situation began at Heritage Bank on North Mulford Rd in Rockford, Aerial footage (WFLD) shows a man being taken out of the bank in handcuffs, seemingly ending a situtation that involved one hostage. Rockford Police held one final media brief just after 9 p.m. Friday.

The situation that took place most of the afternoon and evening inside the Heritage Credit Union and Bank near the intersection of East State Street and Mulford Road after gunman held one person hostage. After surrendering to police just before 9 p.m., the suspect and a female hostage exited the building.

They were both taken into police custody at that time as well. Around 2:30 p.m. Rockford Police Chief Dan O’Shea said they were called in for a report of a male suspect inside the bank, carrying a gun. At that time, he demanded everyone to leave.

At that same time one woman, who is a bank employee was unable to escape the bank when the gunman entered the building. She was detained by the suspect. Partnering with the FBI, the Rockford Police Department and their crisis negotiation team spent hours talking and negotiating with the suspect.

As of 10:15 p.m. Friday, areas near East State Street and Mulford Road intersection are now open.
