Happy 86th birthday, Citizens National Bank.

The home-owned and home-operated Brownwood bank is celebrating its birthday Monday, and the bank’s customers are invited to help celebrate.

Treats will be served in the bank’s lobby at 1 Carnegie St. and at the drive-thru and Walmart locations.

The bank was chartered on Sept. 28, 1934.

In 1906, CNB was organized and opened its doors at the corner of Baker and Center. J.A. Abney was the bank’s first president.

In 1929, the bank moved to its new building at Lee and Center.

The bank moved to its current location in February 1980.

“We are proud to be Brownwood’s only home town bank,” marketing director Christie Tongate said.

The current Board of Directors are:  Calvin Fryar, Chairman of the Board;  John P. Guest, President;  Darwin Boscamp, President Emeritus;  T. Keith Clark, Secretary;  Steve Fryar;  Tim Nabers;  Robert G. Porter;  Carter Sharpe;  A.L. Speck, DVM and Leesa Speck.
