The first thing that comes to mind when we talk about currency is money. Isa. 55:1 tells us that there are things we can buy in life without money and this implies that other currencies exist apart from money. For you to live an impactful life on earth, you must understand the currency of life so that you don’t place too much value on money. Currency is a system of money or other items used as a medium of exchange for goods and services. In those days, we had primitive trade by barter and roman soldiers were given salt as wages, which they, in turn, used in the exchange of goods. It was a legal tender.
God is a businessman who teaches us to profit, that is to produce result. This means that there must be a transaction and exchange because nothing goes for nothing. Life is all about transaction, that is, buying and selling, and so, it is important you understand this act. In Mk. 8:36-37, Jesus cried out asking what shall a man give in exchange for his soul. Here, the commodity on display is the soul of man and the devil is ready to give anything in exchange for this. God’s desire for us is that we profit financially, spiritually and in health (3 Jn. 2) but the devil comes often times with enticing offers to distract us from this. When you are supposed to be in fellowship where your soul can be fed fat and you find yourself engrossed in a business transaction, which you have the power to control its timing, note that a trade has taken place. What the devil is saying is “take money and give me your soul”. God understands that there is an exchange so there are currencies involved in transaction. If you don’t understand the currency of life you will be limited from greatness as your focus will only be on money.
One of the currencies of life often over looked is time. It is a resource and an asset that can neither be stopped nor stored. It is equitable irrespective of race, colour, size or status. It has no respect of man but can be controlled. Its quality depends on how well it is used and if not proper managed, many opportunities can be lost. What you do with time determines what you will become in life. Ps. 90:12 says, “So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” The life span of a man averages on 70 years and anything beyond this is a surplus. With this in mind, you can number the time left to you and wisely plan what to do especially if the past years have not been well utilised. Whatever you invest your time in is what you become. Use your time in acquiring knowledge, praying, fellowship and avoid unprofitable gisting, gossiping and things that are of no relevance to your destiny.
If you will spend eight hours to sleep then you cannot afford any time for nonsense. Many people today are financially broke or have marital challenges because of failure to invest time into their marriage or business. Time can be treated as money in the following ways. First of all, it can be stolen. This happens when it is spent with certain people or things like irrelevant discussions and phone calls where you gain nothing. People often wonder how I manage my time with my very tight schedule; phone calls to answer, counselling, sermons to prepare, books and songs to write, personal studies and prayers, circular business and family. Self-discipline and good time management skills can make you effective and efficient in achieving your goals. May God give you the grace to redeem your time in Jesus name.
