ANDREW NEIL fiercely challenged Nicola Sturgeon’s Independent Scotland currency plan as he demanded an SNP MP answer his question on why they won’t opt to use the Euro.
The SNP’s David Linden was ruthlessly grilled by Andrew Neil during his show as he demanded to know exactly how Scotland would continue to use the pound if they got independence. Mr Neil also demanded to know why the party was not opting to use the Euro as their currency and became frustrated when Mr Linden did not give a direct answer. Mr Neil asked: “If you get your independence what would your Scottish currency be?”
Mr Linden quickly replied that Scotland would use the pound as their currency.
Mr Neil replied: “Erm, but London, Westminster, may not allow you to be part of a monetary union.
“So you would use the pound the way that Panama uses the dollar, it would be a sterilisation process.
The SNP MP answered: “We have been very clear that we would not be in a formal currency union, that is outlined in the growth commission document.

The BBC host hit back: “So if you are not in a formal monetary union but you are using the pound you would have to follow to the letter British and monetary and interest rate policy.
Mr Linden claimed that was not the case to which Mr Neil asked how Scotland would then use the pound.
Mr Neil added: “You would have to have English interest rates and English monetary policy to follow it.
“This is because you couldn’t print your own currency, you couldn’t print the pound.”

Mr Linded snapped: “No, that is not entirely true Andrew.
“We already use both English and Scottish notes here.
“We are intent on using the pound after independence and that has been outlined in the growth commission report.”
The BBC host then questioned why the SNP party did not simply elect to use the Euro.

The SNP MP began to name the number of countries that did not use the Euro while part of the European Union before Mr Neil interrupted to ask his question again.
Mr Linden argued that the SNP was very clear that they intended to use the pound before Mr Neil cut him off once more.
He said: “You keep on saying that you are very clear, but actually don’t answer the questions.
“What is wrong with using the Euro if you want to be such good Europeans.
The SNP MP concluded that continuing to use the pound was the overwhelming message they were receiving from people while doorstepping them.
