TRICHY: The customs officials at Trichy airport have seized foreign currencies equivalent to Rs 4.53 lakh from a passenger hailing from Ariyalur, while he was about to board Sharjah bound Air India Express.
The customs authorities had intercepted a passenger who about to board the Air India Express bound for Sharjah Saturday morning. As the officials grew suspicious, they checked his belongings. During the process, they found that the passenger identified as Mohammed Azharudeen, 22, had concealed foreign currencies in his hand luggage.
Currencies were seized and during their enumeration, it came to light that he had carried 5,350 Canadian dollars, 1,250 Euros and 850 Swiss Francs equivalent to Rs 4.53 lakh.
Customs official then recovered all the currencies from Mohammed Azharudeen and further enquiries are on.
