Houston Astros: Team looking for invincibility by trading for Trey Mancini – House of Houston

Trading News

The Houston Astros are seeking invincibility with their loaded lineup and they feel Trey Mancini is that guy to fulfill. What’s the latest in their pursuit?

Houston Astros fans — today is the day!  The MLB trade deadline is on final approach and we’ll know who the newest member(s) of the ballclub will be by 3 p.m. CDT.  That time can’t come soon enough as this is just a terrific exclamation point at the mid-point of the season.

The Houston Astros have immersed themselves in all kinds of rumors and hopefully some will pan out, most will not.  One thing’s for sure, I’m positive the franchise will make a sound decision in terms of the best talent available make a deal that is a win-win on both ends of the deal.

But as of late — as in the Yordan Alvarez trade — the Houston Astros have fleeced their trade partners.  Alvarez seems to be a generational-type player and could very well be a candidate for Rookie of the Year.  He’s a terrific athlete and he has this crazy knack for hitting dingers.

Imagine that?

I’m sure the Los Angeles Dodgers are sick to their stomach for letting a player of stature go but as rich as that franchise is, I’m positive they’ll eventually find another player that will make the same impact.

Anyway, we know the Houston Astros are looking to improve their starting pitching rotation as well as the catching position, but could they be looking to add another bat as well?

According to MLB.com’s Jon Morosi, the club is interested in Baltimore Orioles’ outfielder Trey Mancini, who is having himself a year and is arguably their top player this season.

With as stacked as this lineup is, it’s amazing to hear that the Houston Astros want to get to stronger to the point of being invincible.  That’s certainly what would happen if they are successful in landing the young prospect just starting out his career.

The 36-71 Orioles will make a sound exit into oblivion after the season is over so I’m positive they’re listening to buyers because they want to improve their outlook for the future as they’re not worried about the now like the Houston Astros are.

How much will Mancini cost?

The Houston Astros may be able to get away with trading for Mancini without Kyle Tucker involved but I’d imagine it’s going to take a Top 15 prospect as the centerpiece to get this deal pushed over the finish line.

Mancini is just getting started with his career so he’s making $575K this season and will have three more seasons of club control which makes him an appealing asset.

The Rangers and the Rays also want in on the Mancini sweepstakes so obviously, you can tell that

the Houston Astros aren’t the only team that desires to have him in their respective lineup.

How is Mancini doing?

Saying that Mancini is doing great is an understatement.  The 27-year-old has been slashing .282/.344/.544 along with 24 home runs and 55 RBIs through 439 plate appearances in 101 games this season.

He’s also 8th in the majors in slugging, 6th in total bases (212), 9th in home runs and 7th in extra-base hits (50) which makes him an even more attractive option for this team.

All in all, I like the aggressiveness the Houston Astros have for going after another hot bat because if this guy gets into this lineup, you can go on and just ship the World Series trophy to 501 Crawford Street this fall.
