Alappuzha: As we celebrate independence day and are busy pouring love and affection towards our motherland, a very unique and novel way of showcasing our past glories through ‘One-rupee’ currency by linking Indian currency notes to India’s achievements related to sports, business, scientific progress, politics and movies has caught the attention of philatelists, historians and the general public.
Arvind Kumar Pai, a Cherthala based philatelist, notaphilist, a teacher by profession and a fond collector of one rupee notes showcases India’s glorious moments through the serial numbers of one-rupee currencies.
“This is an educational initiative that showcases Indian success stories. The aim is to understand the serial numbers of currency notes and how to interpret the serial numbers and thereby linking it to achievements and milestones of Indian success stories. These innovations would attract youth and all citizens to the unheard achievements and legacy of our motherland”, said Mr Pai.

Arvind also known as ‘One-Rupee Man’ has decided to come up with a unique album named ‘My India My Pride’ on the eve of Independence Day to showcase various One-rupee currencies where the currency serial numbers match with the dates of historical events or occasions.
“As a philatelist and a teacher, I am planning to educate my friends, students and colleagues about the importance of currencies and stamps and how they can be used to connect the new generation to the various milestones our country had gone through. The Independence Day is a perfect day I thought to release this album,” said Arvind Pai to Times Network.
Few of the serial numbers in the One-Rupee currency album are ‘260799’ which symbolizes the ‘Kargil Vijay Divas’, ‘190475’ which represents the date of launching India’s first indigenously developed satellite Aryabhatta was launched, ‘220719’ which represents 22nd July 2019 which marks the launch date of Chandrayaan-2. The one-rupee notes are called “Government of India “notes and are printed by the Security Printing and minting corporation of India limited [SPMCIL]. These notes are issued by the finance ministry and are signed by the finance secretary whereas all other notes are issued by the Reserve bank of India. With over 15000 one rupee notes, he claims to have the largest one rupee notes collection in India and has collected nearly 3000 notes with unique serial numbers that signify Indian glory and achievements.
