A suspicious incident in which a man presented a note — but not a robbery note — at the Bank of America at 7606 Newberry Road is under investigation by the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s spokesman Art Forgey said a call was made just after 1:15 p.m. regarding a suspicious incident. Employees were escorted out a back door.

“They called and said someone came in the lobby and passed a note, but it was not a robbery note,” Forgey said. “He was asking for something, but we are not disclosing what it was. We are trying to sort out what it was.”

The man eventually made contact with deputies outside about 1:30 p.m. and was committed for a mental health evaluation under Florida’s Baker Act. No one was hurt in the incident.
