So, we’ve all heard (or done) our fair share of grumbling about Destiny 2 deleting half the game by putting it in the “content vault” from which most of it will never return. But today I am going to look on the bright side of things, as there’s a silver lining to all this deletion.
At long last, our inventories are going to be a cleared out quite a bit. With all these activities gone, that means a ton of different currencies or items will be gone, either depreciated, or turned into something else, most likely.
I have added up 18 different things that are being deleted. They’re mainly from our inventory screen, but a few are jammed into the “quests” area like the Chalice or Synthesizer. Regardless, even if our vaults remain packed until we better understand sunsetting and transmog, at least our inventories will have some room to breathe.
Here are the 18 different things that are being erased, and I’m sure I’m forgetting one or two minor things.
- Simulation Seeds (Mercury)
- Seraphite (Mars)
- Alkane Dust (Titan)
- Phaseglass Needle (Io)
- Resonate Stems (Mars)
- Sentry Synths
- Reaper Synths
- Invader Synths
- Collector Synths
- Calus Tokens
- Runefinder
- Modulus Reports (Black Armory)
- Black Armory Schematics
- Ballistic Logs (Black Armory)
- Forge Polymer (Black Armory)
- Obsidian Radiance (Black Armory)
- Chalice of Opulence (And All Runes)
- Powerful Synthesizer (And All Motes)

So, what to make of all this?
For the four planetary currencies, it seems likely that Bungie will introduce some sort of trade-in for them before Beyond Light hits so they’re not just rendered totally pointless or disappear completely. Right now, you can spend them on things like Upgrade Modules (depending on the day) or you can turn them into planetary vendors which can in turn get you gear you dismantle into weapon parts, glimmer, legendary shards and occasionally, enhancement cores. But for now, save these until Bungie tells us what else we might be able to trade them for.
I think the things I will be most eager to see go are the Synths, given that I cannot get rid of these fast enough and you can’t “dismantle” them, you have to use them, and there’s a cooldown. I have scores of each type without even trying. (Update: I am being told you can turn in Synths for glimmer at Drifter now which is making me facepalm). Things like Synths or Armory schematics or Resonante Stems I hope are just fully deleted from our inventories as simply “depreciating” them and making us dismantle several hundred by hand will be an annoying nightmare.
Black Armory and Gambit Prime being added to the vault list is what made this list so long. They’re responsible for 9 of the 18 things by themselves, and that’s not including weak, normal and powerful motes for each Prime class. I may miss Forges a bit, but I will not miss all these dumb currencies.
We also have some seasonal currencies going away too. Keys and treasure chests from the event. Altered Element and Trace Overrides are for the season itself. So all in all, about half your inventory space should be clear after this season, although Beyond Light is obviously going to introduce new currencies. There are bad currency offenders in Forsaken and Shadowkeep content too, and I maintain that there are at least another dozen currency types that should be eliminated before that content is sunset just because it’s pointless, from Phantasmal Cores to Dark Fragments to Charges of Light to Ghost Fragments. But one thing at a time, I guess.
Goodbye garbage currencies, I will not miss you.
