BRIDGEPORT — A man suspected to have robbed Bridgeport’s Unified Bank in June has been captured.
Bridgeport Police Chief John Bumba said Daryl Waychoff, 55, of Houston, Pennsylvania was arrested in Bruceton Mills, West Virginia on Wednesday.
Waychoff was captured by the Preston County Sheriff’s Department. Bumba said the FBI agent who is working the case informed him of the arrest.
Waychoff is the suspect in the bank robbery which occurred in the morning hours of June 7.
The surveillance video from the bank showed the man walking into the bank, then setting an envelope on the counter and brandishing a weapon.
In previous reports, Bumba said the suspect showed a bank teller a handgun and then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The suspect was wearing a red, button-down shirt and black baseball cap at the time of the robbery and was described as a heavyset man with grayish hair.
Police also believe Waychoff is responsible for another bank robbery that occurred in Fairmont on Aug. 12.
Bumba said that Waychoff has a history of robbing banks and is charged with a total of seven bank robberies in several states.
Waychoff is currently lodged at the Northern Central Correctional Complex in lieu of $1 million bond.
