What we Know about Eagles’ Interest in Trading for Chris Harris, Jr. – Sports Illustrated

Trading News

Erick Trickel

The Denver Broncos have made a move prior to the trade deadline on October 29th, and that might be the extent of it. However, there is another key veteran on the roster that has received a lot of interest from other teams — cornerback Chris Harris, Jr.

With where things stand right now, it does not seem like the four-time Pro Bowler is on the move, but that can all change.

So with the deadline fast approaching, where does everything stand between the Broncos and Harris? What is his status going forward and is there still any chance he can be traded?

It’s a fluid situation and there is still one game left prior to the trade deadline, as the Broncos travel to take on the Indianapolis Colts in Week 8. That one game can be a huge factor in any potential trade happening with the Broncos involving Harris.

The Philadelphia Eagles have reported interest in acquiring Harris. But what would it take to get Denver to budge? I break it all down in the video above

While Harris is the one obvious name left on the roster for the Broncos that can be moved, he isn’t the only player other teams have called about. For as bad as the Broncos are, there are multiple veterans on this roster that teams with playoff aspirations feel can be a missing piece for their current situations.

These players may not end up seeing themselves get traded, but the interest is there. The price has to be right as the Broncos are not a team that trades players just for the sake of trading players.

The Broncos have a value in place for each personnel asset and are not really budging from that. In terms of the players Denver would even consider trading, Chris Harris, Jr. is the one the team has the highest value on.

The Broncos could get a third round compensatory pick for Harris, but that can be nullified by the Broncos own activity in free agency. With abundant cap space, the Broncos are sure to be very active in free agency. Whereas a trade would lock in that pick no matter what the Broncos did in free agency. With Harris a virtual certainty to leave next year and with this team settling in as bottom feeders, it makes some sense to get while the getting is good to compile another high round pick or picks for Harris as they did for Sanders. The fly in the ointment here that restrains this from happening is Callahan’s and Bausby’s injuries. If those two guys were healthy, it is almost a certainty that Harris would be long gone. Unfortunately, I think that means that the Broncos will be forced to hang onto Harris. Parks’ injury also factors in that depletes the safeties. The Bronco backfield has been devastated by injuries.

It’s not just the Eagles there are rumors out there that Seattle is also interested and depending on what happens on Sunday you might have 1 or 2 more teams in play. Harris Jr is worth a 2nd rounder and Elway shouldn’t take anything less Harris Jr is still a top CB maybe not top 5 but just outside of it. Keeping him and letting him walk after the season makes absolutely no sense yes you would get a compensatory pick but with the NFL you can never absolutely know what round that pick will fall. If they do trade Harris Jr for a 2nd that would give you plenty of ammo in the 2020 draft 1 first round 2 seconds and 3 thirds that could be 6 players out of the top 100 not a bad start to rebuild. Now given that Elway has to pick these players and that can be an iffy proposition plus with a lot of cap space in FA we don’t exactly know how that will play out either. And since there absolutely seems to be no direction right now I guess when it comes to trades or picks or players it’s anybody’s guess.
